So, it's a little late.
Hey folks, hope all is well in DA land. I've been busy-busy with worky-worky for the last 7 months and I'm just settling into office life. When the only jobs you've had involve plenty of walking and helping customers, this was a shock to my system just sitting still for a day's work. Trying to get a regular exercise regime underway what with summer approaching, need to stay in some sort of shape you know...
Since my time has involved sitting and clicking a mouse lately, I've had little time for sitting and creating. Sad but true. On the plus side, I have doodled out many ideas that I hope to create stories with and hopefully get my web-comic plan going.
For the time being, you may see more and more conceptual art posted here rather than cleaned up versions. They're mostly doodles I've been scribbling at work in-between After Effects renders and Graphic Design projects. Hope you like 'em. They can be considered sneak peeks of upcoming artwork and comics....?
That's all I got to say about that so, I'll try to update my info more often not to leave you wondering.

Hey everybody!
Sorry about being gone for so long, but life has been very busy.
Since I've been here last time, I've started a graphic design job at a pretty big company, working freelance as an animator for a locally shot short film, and have just attended a great weekend at the Central Canada Comic Con (C4)!
It's been hard trying to fit in some time for personal art these days, but I did mange to create some new stuff for the recent con. I will be posting cropped versions here for viewing pleasures. "Cropped" because a lot of the stuff were prints sold at C4 and that's kind of unfair to those who paid for a print but it ends up on here. Fair's fair you know.
I've also been trying to find the time to work on concepts for my planned web-comic series, hopefully premiering in the new year. It will be a variety of stories, featuring a variety of characters at first, but hopefully that means "spin-offs". Only time will tell.
So thanks again for being patient with me and I'll be posting some new artwork as soon as possible.
Stay "toon"-ed.

It's been a few months since I've updated my journal, so I thought it would be time to do so.
There's been a bit of positive news concerning my illustration, I've obtained an artist's table at this year's Central Canada Comic Con (formally Winnipeg Comic Con) and hopefully will be getting some good exposure. Also I've been asked to work on a 2-page story for a friend's comic book. Artistic things are looking up! :)
Hope everyone is having a good summer so far!
Cheers,
JPox

What a year this has been so far...
If change is a good thing, it sure takes some getting used too.
For the last month or so, there have been major changes happening and I just can't get back onto the creative band wagon. I feel lost and keep thinking I should continue developing my style and projects, but I just can't get into the groove.
I've seem to have lost a connection with the creative community after graduating from school last spring and I think I may have to re-connect again. If not here (Winnipeg), elsewhere.
A lot of the time, I am surrounded by people who just don't understand my passion for old school cartooning and animation. "Kids today..." ;) Maybe it's time to find people who can relate, and maybe that will reignite my creativity.
Just had to get that off my chest. Now I should really try to dive into a current video project I've been putting off. Thanks for reading if you've gotten this far through my post.
Cheers!

Hey folks, just wanted to wish everyone the best in '09!
I suspect this will be a big year personally. I am taking the vows this summer and I hope to build my cartoonist reputation greatly throughout the year. With the right luck, maybe I'll be bogged down with cartoon work this time next year.
I have been enjoying my time back in retail, part-time only, and taking care of small freelance jobs that come my way.
I hope everyone has a great year ahead of them and take care.
Cheers!

Things have been busy lately since I am finally working.
Unfortunately not in the field of Graphic Design or Multimedia, but retail once again. (hey, the bills gots to gets paid)
I'm still patrolling the job sites for any chance of an illustration/design job with crossed figures though.
The deviations and messages are really piling up so I apologize for not faveing or commenting on great work. (and there is alot!)
Freelance is also piling up for me mainly due to procrastination and various family matters.
Hopefully I get my head screwed on right and devise a schedule for myself to get things cooking again.
Thanks for letting me vent out a little,
I needed that.

Cheers,
JPox

The "Hate" issue is finally ready for distribution.
A Paw in My Face is a local Winnipeg zine that is a free collection of local artist's work for the public that is available at various shops.
Some of you probably remember the piece I did for it here: jpox.deviantart.com/art/Like-C…
Here is a viewbook version for those of you who won't be in Winnipeg this week to pick one up. apawinmyface.viewbook.com/vol_…
I heard rumor that there is a "darker" version being released to the public, so when I find a copy, I'll let you know.
Nothing like some free exposure for getting your name known eh?

I guess if my journal needs to be updated, today's the day.
For my 300th deviation (which I just realized), it's a character design that's going unused for a project myself and a friend from school are working on.

I've finished writing out a rough draft for my "Duck Hunting" story so I should be able to start the artwork pretty soon. Lots of try-and-fail gags which I hope will make you laugh. :)

I've been trying to develop a comic strip series that I can use for a web-comic, but trying to think of short gags is harder than I thought. I might just stick with the Super-Critters, but I do have a line-up of woodland creatures I've been roughing out.

I've had a heck of a time trying to find steady work, so freelance is my main artistic venue now while I try to find a menial job to pay the bills and boy, they need to be paid. ;)
Thanks again for stopping by and checking out my stuff!

Cheers,
James Daniels

Wow! My profile has hit 10,000 page views.
It seems like only the other day that I made my first submission to deviantArt while waiting between classes at school 2 years ago...
Thanks for all the views, comments and faves everyone!
You're encouragement and support has really helped me along.

I would like to develop my own web-comic as soon as I have a solid enough concept and/or storyline. It's all part of a bigger goal I hope to achieve when I can call myself a professional illustrator and designer.

Cheers!

Hey gang!
I've been enjoying 2 new DVD purchases today, "Tiny Toon Adventures: Season 1 Vol 1" & "Freakazoid: Season 1".
It's been a long time since I've seen a lot of those classic Tiny Toons episodes and I just finished watching the Freakazoid documentary.
Bruce Timm had created the original character designs for the show which was going to be more action/adventure than comedy. Steven Spielberg wanted it to be more of a comedy show seeing that Tiny Toons and Animaiacs were fairing well with audiences.
With the last second change, a series bible had to be re-created. Since there was no time, a lot of the "stories" were ad-libbed which lent itself to the chaotic comedy the series eventually became known for.
The first episode commentary is a laugh to listen to as well.
Well, I should get back to the show now....

Hey fellow Deviants and visitors to deviantART!
It's been a slow summer for myself so far. Finding work in the creative field is somewhat challenging. Especially around here...
I have decided to try to turn out more artwork as time allows.
There is a lot I still want to do, but there just isn't enough hours in the day. That's how it goes I suppose...

I've come to the realization that I need to start bringing some money in.
I will not give up looking for work in the field which I graduated for. But I do need to find something that will pay me a steady paycheck.
I do have some freelance work on the side, but nothing solid.
Also I need to start drawing and designing again to keep myself tuned up for any future projects.
There are quite a few projects which I have had in mind for a while that would be great to create, but I need to set a schedule for myself.
I would like to make myself an online portfolio, create my own web-comic, finish and make a few videos and practice more Flash animation.
Lots of work in my future it seems. Now I just have to sit down and do it. I hate being a procrastinator...

Hey everyone!
Since I finally completed Digital Multimedia and Graphic Design, I figured I could find a job somewhere in the field.
Winnipeg seems to be dry of such opportunities right now, probably there is too many graduates and too little jobs! I guess the only thing to do is try to create your own opportunities with freelance and other projects.
I figure I will have to return to a regular job for the time being while searching out freelance jobs to start building up a reputation in the creative community...
I know of some projects that have been presented to me, but nothing that brings a steady paycheck. Oh well, as long as I keep plugging away, I'm sure things will start improving....maybe?

Hey everybody,
It's been a while since I've posted anything new....just lots of school related material!
School is finally coming to an end in a few weeks, then it's time to get a job and hopefully something related to my field.
An illustration job would be my dream occupation. Something along the lines of comic book, story book, advertising, character development, storyboard illustration....anything goes.
Hopefully I will have some spare time to add more artwork to DeviantArt, but school is occupying most of my time, at least for another few weeks.
See you soon!
