Mouse and Cat Step by Step by jpox Mouse and Cat Step by Step by jpox
Here's a clue to how I create my artwork!
- I usually start of by visualizing what I'm going to draw by sketching simple shapes and keeping the "line of action" in mind...
- Next I rough out more details and try to fix any proportion problems...
- At this point I could scan the rough and put it into Illustrator and trace it with the pen tool, but I decided to just use a black pilot pen. I try to keeping the flowing look of the rough by keeping my line thick 'n thin.
- After inking, I like to put the drawing into Photoshop and add color. Usually, I put a "threshold" on the drawing to give the inked lines a solid look.
- I then visual a background by selecting the background with Photoshop's "magic wand" tool and create a "gradient" of two colors. Add a little "grain" and "blur" and viola! Finished artwork!

Very nice! Seeing how the drawing is all put together, from the initial sketch lines to the finished product is always intersting, and very helpful! Thanks! :)

you should give live trace in illustrator a shot! its my fav for doing line art and you get some pretty nice stuff too, although it does have to be pretty clean inked line art, but the outcome is amazing!

Thanks! I do use it sometimes, but the thick/thin line always comes out wonky for me. You're right that the line art has to be very clean before using it.
